The Visit by Lorin Maazel
After five days of rehearsals with the new formed Orchestra of the Palau de Les Arts in Valencia, director Lorin Maazel stated that ‘at first I had my doubts’ about the quality and ability of the members. However after five days, the Maestro stated that these had been ‘the most intensive and satisfactory days of my life’ as he put the Orchestra through its paces, playing symphonic pieces, chamber music suites and works by Debussy. Prior to his departure yesterday, Mr. Maazel stated that in his opinion the Orchestra is brilliant and filled with enthusiasm. Mr. Maazel will now leave the Orchestra in the charge of Kynan Johns as rehearsals continue. He will return to Valencia to conduct them in a UNICEF Gala on September 11 with a programme in celebration of the 250th anniversary of Mozart, and in December for the opera Don Giovanni.
