The Sant Vicente Ferrer wine cooperative in Teulada has now presented the first champagne ever produced from Muscatel grapes, in what is equally a first for Alicante Province. Called Tegulata, the new wine came about due to demand from consumers, and some 8,000 bottles are to be produced, but they cannot be qualified by the Alicante D.O. board as the category of ‘sparkling wine’ does not exist on the statute books. However, the Conselleria for Agriculture has granted the necessary permits for the new wine, which will be available from next November.Author: Valencia Life
