Nautical Exhibition at the Science Museum

Nautical Exhibition at the Science Museum

Get to know the ins and outs of the oldest regatta in the world, the America's Cup, with the exhibition at the Science Museum.

The exhibition has been produced and designed by the Science Museum itself, with an informative and multi-disciplinary treatment, and with the objective of bringing navigation closer to the public interest thanks to two factors: the wind and the sea.

The exhibition consists of two parts: the first displays the Desafío Español, while the second gathers together those most representative aspects of each one of the main themes stemming from which the exhibition (wind-sea-navigation) is developed. The navigation acts as a point of integration with the wind and the sea.

The Calle Mayor (Main Street) of the Science Museum exhibits the ESP-51 of the Desafío Español 2007, the first of its boats used for training. The boat, of some 32 metres in height, is one of the three boats, together with all its technical material, bought by the American team One World Challenge, which had competed in the last year of the America's Cup in New Zealand. The measurements are the same as those of the competition boat ESP-88.

The exhibition is distributed between the Calle Mayor and the first floor of the Museum, is structured into three theme blocks, revolving around the wind, the sea and navigation. Each one of these fields is made up of a series of interactive modules appropriate to the theme, as well as computer programmes, audiovisuals, exhibition showcases, royal pieces, models and graphic panels as the main elements.
