Agua de Valencia

Agua de Valencia

Agua de Valenica is a traditional Valencian cocktail which is ideal for lazing away those summer afternoons in a bar or great to get the night started before you hit the town.

Agua de Valencia is made up of Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice, Sparkling Wine or Champagne, Cointreau and Sugar.

Sounds a relatively easy cocktail to make but i have tried many a time and it never compares to how the Valencians prepare it.

Normally you buy Agua de Valencia in a Jarra (a Pitcher) and share it amongst friends, although it is possible to buy it per glass.

If you feel brave enough to attempt it yourself, here are some instructions on how to make a pitcher of Agua de Valencia:

1/4 Litre of Cava or Champagne

3/4 Litre of Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice

80ml of Cointreau

2 Tbsp Brown or White Sugar

Ice

So if you are going to Valencia on holiday or you live in the region and are yet to try Agua de Valencia, pop down to your local bar, and if you are brave make up some yourself!
