Fiestas Patronales Benidorm

Fiestas Patronales Benidorm

Friday 9th November will signal the start of the Virgen del Sufragio and San Jaume festival in Benidorm.

The staging of the Discovery of the Virgin is a significant act, which takes place on the second day of the festival. A procession and a floral offering will take place. In the evening, there will be fireworks.

The festival in Benidorm goes back to 1740, when a ship was washed ashore during a violent storm. The boat was set afire to prevent the spread of infection. Afterwards,  a statue of the Virgin was found among the debris by a group of youngsters, who bore it to the church. Later, a chapel was built for the Virgin. Each year the story is staged on Saturday afternoon on the Playa de Poniente beach.

Six Days full of acts such as the staging of the find of the Virgin, the offering of flowers, la fiesta del tapiz(the celebration of the tapestry), a parade of processional floats and a great fireworks event. Musical performances, bell ringing, concerts and "les albaes" complete the programme.

Don’t wait another year. Come to Benidorm  in November and let yourself get caught up by this most friendly, fun-loving and colourful event.
