Good Health in Spain
The Spanish health system is one of the reasons why so many Britons have chosen the Costa Blanca as the site for their second residence according to a new study.
As a result, the British Embassy as well as the British Consulate in Alicante are drawing attention to the existence of a help line created by the NGO Age Concern. Founded in the UK after World War II, Age Concern is aimed at helping the elderly get home care, and helping people get in touch with the local medical services.
The help line number of 902 003 838 is operated out of the Age Concern offices in Palma de Mallorca in conjunction with British Consular offices across Spain, according to a member of the Spanish branch of the organization. For her part, British Consul Juliet Maric stated that Valencian Health Services would now have to take charge of the British elderly who reside in Spain as is the case in the UK. She also stated that Alicante Province is home to some 300,000 British residents and the province also receives on average three million tourists from the UK annually.
