Alicante Gridlocked
A lethal combination of power outages, road works and the heavy rainfall yesterday left Alicante City virtually grid locked with hundreds of vehicles literally stuck in the City centre.
Not making matters any easier at all were the power outages that left a large number of traffic lights unworkable , and whilst the technicians of electricity company Iberdrola tried to repair the damage as soon as they could, it was in fact over three hours before any power was restored to the lights, in outages that also affect the Playa de San Juan and several other major crossings.
As the rains lessened yesterday afternoon, the situation improved in the centre, but then spread to the outskirts, particularly the area around Gran Via, and eventually affected most of the access roads to the City, before finally being resolved by the early evening.
