Benicassim

Benicassim

Benicāssim, Castellon,  first became a tourist destination over a hundred years ago. Its fine sand, gently sloping beaches, clean waters and numerous facilities continue to shape a resort chosen by thousands of people. The Benicasim district has much more besides. With the backdrop of the "Desert de les Palmes" natural park, there are an endless number of places worth visiting.

STOP PRESS: For Car Hire in Benicassim we recommend that you hire your car from either Valencia airport or Alicante airport so that you can pick up and return the car as part of your holiday plans. We recommend the following car hire company at both Valencia and Alicante airports: Victoria Car Hire

A natural park which offers a great variety of fragrant plants and species, which culminate in the "Pico del Bartolo" (The peak of Bartolo), from where there is a wide view of the Mediterranean Sea, the gulf of Valencia and the Columbrete Islands.

The Columbretes Islands are the most individual archipelago of the Valencian Community and one of the small insular spaces of great ecological interest in the Mediterranean.

They are created by a series of isles and reefs situated 30 miles (56 km.) from the coast of Castellon. There are four groups, the largest island in each being named: "L'Illa Grossa", "La Ferrera", "La Foradada" and "El Carallot".

The Bodegas carmelitano (carmelite winery) building dates from 1912.  In this "bodega", you can visit its cellars and taste its products.

Carmelite liqueur, a product of the moscatel grape, which is harvested throughout the Benicasim region, is well-known and has a good reputation. The distilleries are situated in the folds of the "Desierto", in its route to the sea, amongst the sprawling orange groves.

In these wineries and distilleries, apart from creating the exquisite liqueur using an old and handcrafted process, the range of carmelite products has been expanded: moscatel, Vino de Misa (mass wine) combining old recipes with modern techniques.

Over the last few years Benicasim has acquired prominence on the musical scene with the celebration of an international music festival (FIB), which brings together thousands of young people of all nationalities.
